Angelplus Syndicate

If you walk down Kunnalakkadu Road in Chambakkara, you will find Angelplus Syndicate at number 4/341. It’s near Maradu P.O, which is a landmark everyone around here knows. The building isn't anything special to look at, but it’s where we spend most of our waking hours. We have a small crew. There is always tea brewing in the corner. Someone is usually talking on the phone or writing something down in a ledger. We don't use many fancy gadgets. The floor is concrete and we have these old fans that click while they spin. It gets quite humid in Maradu, so those fans are important. We’ve been here for a good stretch of time. You get used to the sounds of the street and the people passing by. Sometimes a truck blocks the entrance for a few minutes while unloading. We just wait it out. There’s no rush to be like those big city firms. We know our neighbors. We know which shop has the best snacks for the afternoon break. The work is steady and mostly predictable. We open the shutters in the morning and close them when the sun goes down. It’s a simple way to make a living. Nothing more, nothing less. Just a group of people working together at this spot in Chambakkara. We don’t really change much around here, even as the years go by. The ledger gets full, we buy a new one, and the cycle starts again.
