Being out here on Willingdon Island at Amalgam House gives us a pretty good view of how things move in the port. Accelerated Freeze Drying Company Ltd. has been operating from this spot for quite some time. The air always has that salty smell from the water nearby. It’s a busy area with trucks and containers moving all day long. Inside the office, it’s mostly just the sound of the machines and people talking on the phone. Freeze drying is what we do, which is a bit of a process, but we’ve got it down to a routine now. It’s not a glamorous job. You spend a lot of time checking temperatures and making sure the equipment is running like it should. Sometimes the humidity makes things a bit sticky, but that’s just life on the island. We’ve got a small crew here. Most of us have lived nearby for years. We don't spend much time on fancy meetings. Usually, we just grab a coffee and talk about what needs to get packed or shipped out next. The building itself is sturdy, though it shows its age in a few spots. We don't mind. It feels like a real workplace. Dealing with logistics from the island means we have to be on our toes with the ferry schedules and the bridge traffic. It’s just part of the daily grind for us. We stay until the job is done and then head back across the water.
