Verma Tent & Light House

Over on Dwarka Main Raja Puri Road, specifically at K-39, is where we keep Verma Tent & Light House. It’s a mix of two things really. One side is all the tent poles and heavy fabric, and the other side is boxes of light bulbs, wires, and decorative hangings. We spend a lot of time untangling fairy lights and making sure the generators are working. Dwarka is a big area, so we are often moving from one sector to another. The shop itself is usually a bit cluttered because there’s always something being repaired or tested. It’s a family business, so you’ll usually find one of us sitting there near the entrance. We aren't corporate people at all. We talk to our customers like they are our neighbors because mostly they are. When someone has a wedding or a puja, they come to us to make sure the place is lit up properly and there’s enough cover for the guests. It’s hard work, especially when you have to climb up high to fix the lights in the dark. We’ve had some long nights, but that’s just the nature of the business. We don't have any fancy mission statements. We just want to make sure the lights stay on and the tent doesn't leak if it rains. It’s a practical way to earn a living and we’ve been doing it this way for years. We just try to keep things running properly and help out where we can.
