Solanki Tent House

Our place, Solanki Tent House, is located in Dwarka Sector 7, right in the Dada Dev Mandir Market at 17/35. It is a pretty active area because of the temple nearby. We have a lot of stuff stored here like large poles, bundles of colorful fabric, and stacks of chairs. Most of the work happens outside when we are loading things onto the trucks to go to a site. It is a lot of physical labor, carrying those heavy wooden planks and rolls of carpet. When a wedding season starts, we are barely in the shop at all. We are usually out somewhere in the neighborhood setting things up. Back at the market, the shop is where we keep all the records and talk to people who come in asking about dates. The fabric needs a lot of washing and drying, so you might see things hanging out sometimes. The market 17/35 is usually crowded, especially on weekends when there are many visitors to the Mandir. We have been in Sector 7 for a good amount of time now and we know the streets pretty well. It gets tiring when the heat is high, but we just get on with it. There is always another event to prepare for, so we keep moving the inventory in and out. It’s a lot of folding and unfolding, really. We just keep the poles and the cloth ready for whenever they are needed next.
