Sherik Parkhang

Our shop is tucked away in New Arunanagar, right near the Day School. If you know Majnu Ka Tilla, you know how the lanes can be a bit like a maze. We are at Office No-179-B. In the mornings, you can hear the kids at the school playing or shouting during their break times. It is a small space, mostly filled with books from floor to ceiling. Sometimes it feels like the books are taking over the chairs too. There is a certain smell of old paper and ink that hits you when you walk in. We spend a lot of time just moving stacks around to find what someone is looking for. The lighting is a bit dim in the back, so we have a couple of desk lamps that stay on all day. It’s a quiet corner for the most part, except for when the school bell rings. We have a small kettle for making butter tea, and there’s always a cup sitting somewhere near the register. The front door sticks a bit when it rains, so you have to give it a good push. People often stop by just to escape the narrow alleys for a minute. It isn't a modern showroom, just a functional book shop where things are a bit cluttered but we know where everything is. We have been here at this address for a long time and have seen the neighborhood change quite a bit around us.
