Satish Tent House

Being right near the Malka Ganj Sabzi Mandi means our mornings start very early. The noise from the vegetable market is something else. Our place is at number 1950 on the Main Road. It’s a good spot because everyone sees us, but the dust from the road is a constant battle. We are always dusting off the pipes and the chairs. Satish Tent House has been here through many seasons. We have seen the road change and the shops around us turn into different things. We mostly deal with the basics, like iron frames and colored cloths. When there’s a big event, we are up all night loading the carts. My hands are usually calloused from gripping the ropes. It’s not the kind of job where you wear a suit. I’m usually in my old sandals and a plain shirt. My nephew helps out with the bookings now. He uses a big ledger book to write everything down. We don't use computers much. If someone wants a tent, they come talk to us face to face. It’s simpler that way. We know the shortcuts in the lanes around here so we can get the stuff delivered even when the traffic is bad. It’s a bit messy in the back storage area, but we know where every single piece is. That is just how we work every day. We don't need fancy things to get the job done right for the people in Malka Ganj.
