My name is Ranjeet, and I run Ranjeet Telecom from my house at H No 556 in Garhi Babar Mohhalla. It’s a bit different from the shops you see in the big malls because I work right out of a converted room at the front of my home. This allows me to keep my costs down and stay close to my family. Most people who come here are my neighbors or people who live a few streets over. They know they can just knock on the door if the shutters are halfway down. I do a bit of everything—recharges, selling second-hand handsets, and fixing basic hardware issues. The room is filled with cables, old boxes, and my workbench where I keep my soldering iron. It’s not the most organized place in the world, but I know where everything is. Since I’m in a residential area, it’s usually quiet during the day and then gets busy in the evenings when people come home from their jobs. I don’t have a big sign outside, just a small one that points toward the entrance. It’s a very local way of doing things. I’ve lived in Garhi Babar all my life, so I know the history of the place. Working from home means I can help out with the kids or have tea with my wife between customers. It’s a simple arrangement that has worked for us for several years and I hope to keep it going.
