Being at Chandni Chowk 894 means we are right in the middle of all the chaos of the old city. Our shop is quite small, but that is normal for this part of Delhi. We spend our days surrounded by glass counters full of phones and accessories. There is always someone coming in with a broken screen or a battery that won’t charge anymore. The light inside is a bit bright because we need to see the tiny screws and wires we are working with. Outside the door, the street is always packed with rickshaws and shoppers. Sometimes the noise is so loud we have to shout just to talk to someone across the counter. We keep a lot of tempered glass and colorful covers on the walls to make the most of the space. It gets dusty very quickly, so we are always using a cloth to wipe down the display cases. It is not a very quiet or peaceful place to work, but it is lively. We know the other shopkeepers around us, and we often share a pot of tea in the afternoons. If a customer is looking for something we don’t have, we usually tell them which lane to check next. It’s just a simple mobile shop. We don’t have fancy chairs or a waiting area. People just stand around while we fix their devices or show them a new charger. It is busy, it is cramped, and it is just our daily reality here.
