R T Mobiles

If you walk down Gali No-8 in New Seelampur, you’ll find us at 143/1. It’s a tiny shop called R T Mobiles, mostly just enough room for a counter and a couple of stools for customers. We spend a lot of time hunched over small screwdrivers, trying to fix cracked screens or replacing batteries that have puffed up like pillows. The street outside is very narrow, so there’s always a motorbike honking or children running past the door. I started this place because I liked taking things apart when I was younger, and now I do it every day for work. It’s not a shiny corporate store like you see in the malls. We have wires hanging from the walls and old phone cases stacked in the corners. Sometimes the electricity goes out, and we have to finish a solder job using a battery-powered light. Customers come in with phones that have been dropped in water or just won't turn on anymore. We don't promise miracles, but we try our best to get their photos back. It’s a lot of squinting at small parts and dealing with people who are worried about their data. We know most of the people on this block, so it’s more like helping out neighbors than anything else. We keep the shop open late because that’s when most people get off work and need their phones fixed. It is just how we run things in this lane.
