If you come to Tri Nagar Gali Number 13, you will find us at A-394. Om Sai Ram Flower Decorator is really just a small workshop where we handle a lot of fresh flowers. Every morning starts very early, around four or five, when the trucks arrive from the big market. The air in here smells like roses and marigolds, but also a bit like damp earth. We spend hours sitting on the floor stringing petals together or making those big arrangements you see at weddings. My hands are usually stained green from the stems. It is a messy job, really. There are leaves and cut wires all over the place until we sweep up at night. We do a lot of work for the local temples and the houses nearby when they have a function. It's not like a high-end boutique. We just use what is in season. Sometimes the heat makes the flowers wilt too fast and that’s a real headache for us. We have to keep spraying water every few minutes. My nephew helps me with the deliveries on his scooter. We try to be careful so the petals don’t fall off on the bumpy roads around here. It’s hard work and your back hurts by the end of the day, but seeing the finished stage decoration makes it feel okay. I’ve been doing this for fifteen years now and I don't think I would know how to do anything else.
