Nawab Florist

Operating out of Friends Colony 970 means our days at Nawab Florist start well before the sun is even up. The delivery trucks come in early and we have to unload everything while the air is still cool. There are always buckets of water sitting around the floor and you have to be careful not to trip over them when you are moving fast. The smell of the roses and lilies is very strong in the morning but by noon you almost stop noticing it. My apron is usually wet from the stems and the floor gets covered in green leaves and cut branches that we have to sweep up every few hours. We keep the shop at number 970 quite packed with whatever came in fresh that day. Sometimes the thorns prick your fingers when you are stripping the stems but that is just part of the job. People come in from around the neighborhood looking for something for a birthday or just for their own tables. We spend a lot of time trimming petals and making sure the jars stay full of clean water. It is a messy kind of work with all the mud and the wet scraps but it feels good to see the colors lined up. The street outside gets busy later on but inside it is just us working through the piles of flowers. We have been in this spot in Friends Colony for a good bit of time.
