If you walk down Gurudwara Road in Kotla Mubarakpur, you’ll see our shop at number 289. It’s a narrow place, but we managed to fit a lot of stuff inside. Mostly, it’s mobile covers, chargers, and those small earphones that everyone seems to lose these days. The sign outside is a bit faded from the rain last year, but you can still read the name okay. We spend a lot of time just sitting behind the counter, waiting for the next person to come in with a cracked screen or a battery that won’t hold a charge anymore. The traffic on this road is always something else, so there's a constant sound of horns and bikes going past. I usually have some music playing on the small speakers near the door to drown it out a little. It’s not the quietest job, but I like seeing the neighborhood people stop by. Sometimes they don’t even buy anything, just come in to ask for directions or see what’s new. We keep the glass cases wiped down as much as we can, though fingerprints always show up five minutes later. Dealing with phones all day can be a headache when the software doesn't behave, but it’s what we do. It’s a straightforward life here. We open up, sort through the new stock, talk to whoever walks in, and close up when the street starts to get a bit quieter in the evening.
