I've been here at Karol Bagh for a long time now. The shop is on Padam Singh Road, right at number 6. It’s always busy around here. In the mornings, we open up early to beat the heat, though it doesn't always work. There are stacks of fabric everywhere you look. Sometimes the piles get so high I can barely see the back wall. We spend most of our time measuring out cloth and folding it back up when people change their minds. It's a lot of work on the arms. The street outside is never quiet. You hear the rickshaws and people shouting all day. We usually have our tea around eleven when the first rush slows down a bit. My father started this, and now I’m the one handling the daily stuff. We don't have fancy lights or anything, just the regular tubes. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just sit there in the dark waiting for the generator to kick in. It gets dusty because of the road being so close. I spend a lot of time just dusting the shelves before the first customer even walks in. Usually, by the evening, we are all pretty tired. It’s just how it is. We keep the doors open and wait for the next person to come in. The address is easy to find if you know the landmark, but even then, people get lost in the lanes. It's a good spot though.
