About Durga Mobile Repairs & Training Centre – Telecom in Delhi
If you’ve got a broken phone in Delhi, you probably ended up in Karol Bagh at some point. We are in the Wimpy Mobile Plaza, shop number 9. The sign says Durga Mobile Repairs & Training Centre. It’s a small shop, honestly. We have benches where we fix all sorts of phones, from the old ones with buttons to the new ones with big glass screens. But it isn't just about fixing things. We also teach people how to do it. There are usually a few students crowded around a desk, watching someone solder a tiny wire or change a chip. It gets a bit cramped when there are five or six people in there at once. The plaza is always loud with people bargaining and music playing from the shops next door. We spend a lot of time looking through magnifying glasses. My eyes get tired by the end of the day. We don't have any fancy mission statement or anything like that. We just fix the mobiles that come in and try to help the kids learn a trade so they can go out and start their own shops. Sometimes we run out of a specific part and have to send someone running to another block to find it. That’s just a normal day for us at shop number 9. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning till night. Most people find us through word of mouth, which is fine by us because the shop is already quite full most of the time.
