Our little shop is tucked away in Gali Number 20, right at house number 411 in Jaffrabad. It’s a narrow street, so if a rickshaw comes through, everyone has to lean against the walls to let it pass. We mostly handle phone stuff here. People come in to get their balance topped up or to buy a new SIM card when they lose theirs. We also keep a few chargers and some cheap earphones because people are always breaking them. The lighting inside isn't the best, but we have a small desk where we try to fix screens that have been dropped. It’s a lot of fiddly work with tiny screws. Most of the time, the neighbors just stop by to chat or ask about the latest data plans. It gets quite loud in the evenings when everyone is coming home from work. We have a small television in the corner that usually plays the news, though nobody really watches it. My cousin helps me out on the weekends because it gets busy then. We don't really do anything fancy, just the basic communication things that people in the neighborhood need. It's a simple life here in the lane. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to sit in the dark for an hour, but the customers don't mind much, they just wait outside in the street where there is a bit of a breeze.
