Arun Reparing Centre

Arun Reparing Centre is located in the middle of all the noise in Naya Bazar, Chandni Chowk. Specifically, we are at number 645. If you know Chandni Chowk, you know it's a total maze, and finding us might take a minute the first time you visit. We spend our days surrounded by tools, wires, and broken pieces of machinery that people bring in to be fixed. It's mostly a one-room setup where we sit on low stools and try to figure out why something stopped working. I learned this trade from my father, and I’ve been doing it ever since I was a teenager. It’s not a clean job; our hands are usually covered in oil or dust by midday. We don't have a receptionist or a waiting room. People just come in, leave their stuff, and we give them a slip of paper. Sometimes we have to wait weeks for a specific part to arrive from another market, which makes customers a bit impatient, but we do what we can. The heat in the summer can be brutal in these old buildings, but we just keep the fan running and keep working. There’s a certain satisfaction in making a machine run again when the owner thought it was just scrap. We aren't doing anything revolutionary here, just fixing things so people don't have to buy new ones. It’s a small, honest living in a very crowded part of the city.
