The Heritage Public School Nakraunda

Out here in Nakraunda, near Doiwala, the air feels a bit different than in the middle of Dehradun. Our school is tucked away in this area, surrounded by a bit of green and some houses. It’s a quiet spot most of the time, except when the kids are arriving. We have a simple gate and a gravel path that leads to the main door. Inside, it smells like old paper and floor cleaner. We aren't trying to be anything fancy or high-tech. Most of our day is spent making sure the classrooms are ready and the children are paying attention. The weather can be a bit unpredictable, so we often have to remind everyone to bring a sweater or an umbrella. Our staff room is small and usually has a few cups of tea sitting around. We know the parents because they live just down the road or in the next village over. It’s a very local operation. We have a playground that’s mostly just a patch of flat ground, but the kids don’t seem to mind. They run around until they’re red-faced and sweaty. It’s a lot of noise and energy, but that’s what a school should be. We just keep the wheels turning and try to make sure everything stays on schedule as much as possible.
