Ram Charan Singh High School

Located over on No. 33 Shimla Bypass Road. It's a busy spot. You can hear the trucks and cars going past all day long while the kids are in class. We've been here in Dehradun for a good while now. The building is just a normal school building, nothing fancy to look at, but it does the job. Most of the teachers have lived in this city their whole lives. In the mornings, you see the students walking up the road in their uniforms, some of them look sleepy. It gets a bit dusty when the wind picks up off the road. We have a playground but it’s mostly just dirt and some grass at the edges. During the breaks, it gets really loud with everyone running around. Sometimes the monkeys come down from the trees nearby and we have to make sure the kids stay inside. It’s just how things go here. Dehradun is changing fast, but this corner of the bypass feels the same as it did years ago. We have high school classes mostly. The rooms have big windows to let the air in because it gets warm in the afternoons. Sometimes the power goes out and we just keep teaching. People around here know us well. It’s a local place for local families. We don’t have those big buses like the private schools in the center, so everyone just walks or takes a rickshaw. It works out fine.
