Oak Grove School is tucked away up in the Mussoorie Hills at P O Jharipani. Living and working up here is quite different from being down in the plains. The air is cooler, and the views are something else, though we get used to them after a while. The school has been around for ages. It’s got that old-fashioned mountain feel with stone buildings and paths that go up and down the slopes. We don’t have the same hustle and bustle as a city school, but we have our own kind of busy. Managing a school in the hills means dealing with the weather and the terrain. When the mist rolls in, you can hardly see the other end of the building. We just go about our business, ringing the bells and heading to class. The students live here for a good part of the year, so it becomes like a second home for everyone. We don't do much in the way of big corporate talk. We just focus on the lessons and making sure everyone is fed and warm. The staff here mostly lives on site, so we’re a tight-knit group. It’s a lot of walking up and down hills every day. We just keep the place running, teaching the kids, and watching the seasons change on the mountainside. It’s a quiet life, mostly, and that’s just the way we like it for the most part.
