Mint Indian Gourmet

Living and working out here in Uttarakhand is different than being in the big cities. It's a bit slower and you really notice the seasons changing right outside the door. At Mint Indian Gourmet, we spend most of our time in the kitchen or just making sure the dining area looks okay for whoever walks in. It’s not a huge operation, just a few of us trying to get the food right every single day. We get our ingredients locally when we can, mostly because it’s easier than waiting for a truck from far away. Sometimes the fog rolls in and we don't see many people for hours, so we just sit and prep for the dinner rush. The stove stays hot all afternoon. We don't have a big glossy menu or anything like that, just what we know how to cook well. Most people who come in are locals or folks passing through the hills. We try to keep the place warm and the lights on even when it's raining hard outside. There’s always washing up to do and napkins to fold. It’s just honest work, really. We don’t talk much about goals or plans, we just focus on the next order and making sure the floor isn't slippery. It’s quiet here most nights, which is how we like it after a long day of standing on our feet in the kitchen. We are just a small restaurant doing our bit in the mountains.
