S. M. Industries sits right on 2nd Street in Kongu Nagar. If you’re around Ganapathy, you’ve probably passed by our gate at No. 17 without thinking much of it. We’ve been in this spot for a long time. It’s a busy little street and parking can be a real pain if you arrive after nine in the morning. Inside, it’s mostly just the sound of metal and the guys talking over the fans. We don't have a big corporate office or anything like that. My office is just a small room with a window that looks out onto the shop floor. I can see everything going on from there. The machines are old but we keep them running. It’s a lot of grease and heavy lifting most days. We usually have tea delivered from the shop around the corner twice a day, and that’s when everyone actually stops for ten minutes. It’s not a flashy business. We just make parts and handle the orders that come in through the door or over the phone. Sometimes the floor gets a bit messy when we’re busy, but we clean up before heading out. It’s a local operation, and we like it that way. Most of the people working here live just a few streets away, so it’s a short walk home at the end of the day. We don't spend much time on fancy talk, we just get the work done and try to stay on schedule.
