Jairam Steels

We’ve been here in Machampalayam for a good while now. The yard gets pretty dusty especially when the trucks are moving in and out with all that heavy metal. If you look for us in Sundrapuram, most people know where the steel place is. It's just a regular warehouse setup where we spend most of our mornings unloading rods and sheets. It’s hard work, and my hands are usually covered in some kind of rust or grease by noon. We aren't a big fancy office with air conditioning. It’s just us and the metal. Sometimes the sun hits the metal roof and it gets really hot inside, but that’s just how it is working with steel. We stock different types of beams and pipes for builders nearby. It’s mostly local guys coming in to pick up what they need for a house project or a small gate. We don't have a big system for everything, we just write things down and make sure the weight is right on the scales. If you come by, you’ll probably see us moving things around with the crane or just sitting by the desk checking the inventory books. We try to keep things organized but with steel, it always ends up looking a bit messy. It’s a straightforward business. No big talk, just selling steel to whoever needs it for their construction. It’s what we do every day from morning until the sun goes down and we lock the gate.
