Mm Machines

No. 11 Binny Compound is where we set up our machines. It’s located on 3rd Street, just off Kumaran Road, which is always a bit of a mess with people and traffic. We’ve been in this compound for quite a long time now, and it has a certain old character you don’t find in the newer industrial parks. The building is showing its age, and the stairs are a bit steep for carrying heavy boxes, but it fits what we do perfectly. Inside, it’s all about the machines. We have rows of them taking up most of the floor space, leaving just enough room for us to walk between them without bumping our knees. It gets quite loud when everything is running at once, so we’ve learned to talk over the clatter and the hum. We don’t have a fancy sign out front, just the address and the name painted on the door. Most people who come here are looking for specific parts or need help with their own broken equipment. We spend a lot of time looking through old manuals or trying to find a specific wrench that someone walked off with earlier. The windows are high up and let in some natural light, but we mostly rely on the overhead tubes to see what we are doing. There’s a small corner with a wooden table where we eat our lunch and talk about nothing in particular. It’s not a glamorous setup, but it’s where the actual work happens every day. We keep the machines oiled and the floors as clean as you can expect. It’s just a regular operation for us.
