Vijaya Laxmi Engineering Works

You can find us at Plot No. 41 on Mettupalayam Road, right in Thudiyalur. We are very close to the Indian Bank, which is a big landmark here. This place is an engineering workshop. We deal with all kinds of metal work and repairs. The shop is always full of heavy machinery and the smell of cutting oil. It’s a loud place, especially when the lathes are running. My family has been doing this for a long time. We don't have an air-conditioned office or anything like that. We sit on plastic chairs and use an old wooden desk for the paperwork. Most of our customers are locals who need something fixed or a specific part made. We have a few workers who have been with us for years, and they know the machines better than anyone. The road outside is always busy with buses and lorries going towards Ooty. It gets very dusty during the day. We usually have a short break in the afternoon for some tea and snacks from the shop next door. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we know. We work hard to get the orders done on time so the customers don't have to keep coming back. We just do the work as it comes and try to keep the machines in good shape. It’s our life here on Mettupalayam Road.
