You can find Velavan Stores Silks Private Limited at 52, Gin Factory Road. It’s an old part of town and the road has been there forever. Our building is a simple structure that has seen a lot of years go by. Inside, we have stacks of silks and other clothes piled up. It’s not one of those modern malls with bright lights and music. It’s more of a traditional shop where you can hear the fans whirring overhead. The staff here have been around for a long time, so we all know each other well. We start the day by sweeping the front and getting the displays ready. Gin Factory Road can get quite dusty, so we are always cleaning something. The customers who come in are usually locals who have been shopping in this area for decades. We don't do much in the way of advertising or fancy displays. The shelves are full, and sometimes it's hard to find a specific color, but we eventually do. It’s a bit of a maze inside with all the boxes. We don't have a big corporate strategy or anything like that. We just open the doors, talk to the people who walk in, and help them find what they need. It’s a straightforward way to run a business. When the sun sets, we lock up the shutters and head home like everyone else on the street. It’s tiring but it’s what we do.
