B. K. S. Textiles

Down here in Kungampalayam, things move a bit slower than in the big cities. We are out in Palladam, and most of what we do revolves around the local textile trade. Our place is simple. It’s more of a warehouse feel where we keep the looms and the finished goods. There’s a lot of dust from the yarn, so we are always sweeping the floors. The sun hits the front of the building pretty hard in the morning, making it the brightest time of day to check the colors of the fabric. We don’t have a fancy showroom. If someone wants to see what we have, they just come into the back where the stock is kept. We have a small group of workers from the nearby villages who have been with us for years. We eat lunch together under the shade when it gets too hot. Most of the time, we are just busy loading and unloading trucks. The road outside can be bumpy, but the transporters know the way by now. We don't spend money on marketing or big signs. People in the area know where B. K. S. Textiles is and what we do. It’s a practical life, centered around the rhythm of the machines and the arrival of raw materials. We just try to do an honest day’s work and keep the business going for the next generation. It is just how we live here.
