Down at 324-A in the Railway Colony Camp area of Podanur, you’ll find our metal shop. Podanur has a specific feel to it because of the railway history, and our little corner is part of that landscape. It’s a quiet enough area compared to the city center, but we keep our own noise going inside the shop. We deal with various types of metal, sorting through piles and cutting things down to size. The building is an old one, and it has its quirks, like the way the roof leaks a tiny bit when the monsoon hits hard. We’ve got benches lined up with tools that have seen a lot of use over the years. Sri Lakshmi Metal isn’t a high-tech operation; it’s more about knowing how metal behaves. We spend a lot of time weighing things and moving heavy loads around the yard. The sun sets behind the railway tracks, and that’s usually when we start thinking about finishing up for the day. It’s a steady kind of life. We don’t have a lot of visitors except for the regulars who know we are here. Our hands are usually stained with rust or oil, and that’s just the way it is. We don't try to be something we aren't. We just provide a place in Podanur where metal gets handled and processed without any big fuss or complicated systems. It’s just daily work for us.
