Sonyo Garments

Our place is in the Fazal Complex on Kangayam Road, unit 2- A/1. It’s a bit of a climb up the stairs if you aren’t used to it, and the hallway is usually filled with people from the other shops. Sonyo Garments isn't a huge operation, just a few of us working in a couple of rooms. The view out the window is just more buildings and the constant stream of traffic on Kangayam Road. It gets pretty loud during the day with all the horns honking below. We’ve got shelves stacked high with finished goods and patterns hanging on the walls. The desk in the front is mostly for show since we’re usually back with the machines anyway. It’s a bit dusty because of the fabric lint, no matter how much we sweep. We have our tea from the shop downstairs and usually just sit on the stools to talk about the local news. The electricity bills are always higher than I expect, but that’s just part of it. We don’t have a website or anything like that; people usually just hear about us from someone else in the trade. It’s a practical space where we focus on the work at hand. Sometimes the landlord comes by to chat, and we have to move some boxes so he can sit down. It’s just how things go here in the complex every day.
