Adarsh Knitwear

We are located in Sirupooluvapatti, tucked away behind the Amman Kalyanamandabam. The area is called Athimarathottam. If you find the marriage hall, you are basically there. It’s a bit of a back-side location, which keeps the noise of the main road away, but we have our own noise from the knitting machines. We are a small knitwear outfit. Tirupur and the areas around it are full of places like ours, so we are just one of many. We have several machines and some long tables where the fabric is cut and checked. It’s a lot of manual labor, really. You spend all day on your feet, moving from one station to another. We aren't doing anything revolutionary, just making garments as best as we can. The building is simple, just bricks and a tin roof in some parts. It gets hot during the day, so we have fans going all over the place. We don't have any polished sales pitches. We just work with the suppliers and get the pieces stitched up. Sometimes we stay late to finish an order when the deadline is tight. It’s a tight-knit group of workers here. We know each other's families and how we like our tea. It’s just a normal day-to-day life for us in this corner of the textile world. It’s hard work but it pays the bills for us all. The machines keep on humming and we keep on working until the day is done.
