Shanthi Enginering

Shanthi Enginering is out at number 6 in Chinniyampalayam. It’s mostly an industrial kind of area. We have a workshop here where we do all our metalwork and repairs. It gets pretty loud with the machines running, so we usually have the big doors open for some air. It’s a hands-on kind of place. You won’t see anyone in a suit here. We’re usually covered in a bit of grease or dust by the end of the shift. That’s just the nature of engineering. We started out small and we’ve kept it that way. We like being able to see everything that’s happening on the floor. Chinniyampalayam is a good spot for us because there are other shops nearby if we need a specific part or a bit of help with something heavy. We don't have a marketing department. If people need work done, they usually hear about us from someone else in the trade. We just focus on the machines and making sure things are fixed right. The floor is concrete, the walls are painted a dull grey, and we have a small corner for tea. It’s a simple life. We don’t have fancy goals, just to do the job well enough that the customer doesn't have to come back for the same problem twice. That’s how we’ve always done it. The smell of metal and oil is just part of our daily life now. We wouldn't know what to do in a quiet office. It's hard work but it's ours.
