S. R. Engineering Works

We are tucked away at number 43 in Srinivasa Nagar, which is part of the Uppilipalayam area. It’s a bit quieter than the main roads, which we actually prefer for the kind of work we do. The workshop has that smell of oil and cut metal that never really goes away, no matter how much we clean. We have a few lathes and some old drilling machines that have seen a lot of use over the years. They are not the newest models, but they get the job done if you know how to handle them. Most of the guys working here have been doing this for a long time, so they know the quirks of every machine. We spend the day turning parts and checking measurements with calipers. It’s slow work sometimes, especially when a piece of metal is being stubborn. Uppilipalayam has a lot of small industries like ours, so we often see familiar faces from the shops down the street. We usually take a break in the afternoon when the sun is at its hottest. Someone usually goes out to get tea for everyone from the stall on the corner. There is no big sign or flashing lights outside, just our name on the wall. We do not do much fancy stuff, just solid engineering work for whoever needs a part fixed or a new piece fabricated. It is a honest way to spend the day, surrounded by iron and the sound of shavings.
