S. K Appareals

We’ve been operating S. K Appareals out of West Nehru Nagar for a while. Our spot is No. 1/13 on 7th Street. It’s a decent area, mostly quiet except for when the deliveries arrive. We make different kinds of clothes here. The shop floor is usually covered in fabric scraps and thread because we’re always in the middle of a project. It’s not the cleanest looking place, but we know where everything is. I started this because I knew how to sew and wanted to stay close to home. Now we have a few people helping out. We spend most of our time at the machines or checking the hems on the finished pieces. It’s tiring work sometimes, especially when there’s a big deadline, but we get through it. We aren't trying to be some big global brand. We just want to make clothes that people can actually wear without them falling apart after one wash. If the power goes out, which happens sometimes, we just sit outside and wait it out. That's life in the neighborhood. You get used to the rhythm of the street. Neighbors stop by to chat while we work. It’s a simple setup. We don't have a receptionist, so if you come by, just yell for someone in the back. We're usually there from early morning until the sun goes down. Most days we’re too busy to even check the time.
