Printech Fashions

Down here on 4th Street in Karuvampalayam, things move pretty fast most days. Printech Fashions is basically a workspace where we handle a lot of fabric and printing stuff. It’s located at number 29 in Erukadu. If you walk down the street, you can usually hear the machines running from outside. It’s not the cleanest place in the world because there is always lint and scraps of cloth on the floor, but that’s just how it goes when you’re working with textiles. I started this because I knew a lot about how clothes are put together. We spend most of our hours checking the machines and making sure the colors look okay on the material. It gets really hot in the afternoons, so we usually keep the big fans going all the time. Sometimes we have a lot of orders piled up and other times it is a bit slower, giving us time to fix the equipment and clean up. We aren't a big factory with thousands of people, just a local spot where we do our work every day. Most of the workers have been here for a few years now. We know each other's families and have tea together during the breaks. If someone stops by the office, they might have to wait a minute while I finish up something on the floor. It’s a busy life but it keeps us going. We just do what we know.
