Sri Garments

Our shop is right on Puluvatti Road. If you know P.N. Road, we are not far from that main stretch. We make garments, mostly basic items that people need every day. The sewing machines make a constant humming sound from early morning until we close. It’s a sound I’ve grown very used to over the years. We have a few rows of machines and some big wooden tables for cutting the cloth. My uncle started this place a long time ago, and I’ve been helping out since I was a teenager. It’s a bit messy with scraps of fabric on the floor, but we try to sweep up every evening. We don't have a showroom or a front desk. People just come to the side door if they want to talk to us about an order. Most of what we make goes to bigger buyers who sell the stuff in the local markets. We focus on getting the stitching right so the clothes don't fall apart after one wash. It’s honest, steady work. Sometimes we have to stay late under the tube lights to finish a batch of shirts. The lighting isn't the best in the back, but we have some strong lamps over the main work areas. We buy our thread in bulk from a guy in the next town over. We aren't trying to be a big fashion brand. We just want to make decent clothes that last a while. The road outside gets muddy when it rains, but we keep going.
