Gurudev Appaarels

Down here in Tekma Nagar, things are usually moving fast. We are located at 2 S.I.D.C.O., right in the heart of the industrial area near Pongupalayam. Gurudev Appaarels is basically a bunch of sewing machines and people who know how to use them. The noise is constant. You get used to the hum of the motors after a while. It’s not a glamorous job. We deal with fabrics all day long. Threads get everywhere—on our clothes, in our hair. Perumanallur is a good place for this kind of work. There are a lot of us doing similar things around here. We just try to do our bit. The building isn't anything special to look at. Just some walls and a roof to keep the rain off the machines. We have a small break area where we eat lunch. Sometimes someone brings in something good to share. We talk about family and whatever is on the news. The work can be repetitive, but we keep at it. Shipping out the finished garments is always a relief. We check the labels and pack the bags. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait. We just use that time to rest our eyes. It’s a living. We’ve been at this address for a while and don't plan on moving. It works for us. Just a regular garment unit doing its thing. It gets pretty hot inside during the summer months, but we just keep the doors open for some air.
