Om Sakthi Metal Cutting Industries

Over at 272/C on Periyar Street Extension in Ganapathy, things are usually loud and dusty. This is Om Sakthi Metal Cutting Industries, and we spend our days dealing with heavy sheets of metal and loud machinery that never seems to stop. We are near Om Sakthi Steels on Sanganoor Road, which is a very industrial part of Coimbatore. The workshop has high ceilings and large doors to let the heat out, but it still gets very warm by midday. You won’t find any fancy furniture or air conditioning in this building. Instead, there are stacks of iron, cutting torches, and sparks flying everywhere. My workers and I wear heavy boots and protective gear because the work is rough on the body. We cut pieces to size for all kinds of local projects, from construction to small machine parts. The floor is concrete and usually covered in metal shavings that we sweep up at the end of every shift. It’s a practical business for people who need things built. We don't spend time on fancy talks or polished presentations. People come to us because they have a job that needs doing and they know we have the tools for it. The trucks come and go all day, loading up finished pieces for delivery. It’s a lot of physical labor and precision. Sometimes we take a break under the shade of the trees outside when the machines need to cool down.
