J. K. Garments

Our shop, J. K. Garments, is tucked away over on Maniyakarampalayam Road, specifically near Rakkiyapalayam Pirivu. It’s a mouthful to say the whole address, No. 98/5 M. C. Nagar, but most locals just know the turn-off. We’ve been set up here for several years, surrounded by the sound of stitching machines and the smell of fresh cotton. It gets pretty warm in the afternoons, especially when we have a big order of shirts or trousers to finish up. We aren't some giant factory you’d find in the big industrial zones. It’s more of a family-run kind of thing where everyone knows their job. My cousin handles the cutting while I mostly look after the finished pieces and talk to whoever drops by. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit outside on the steps until it comes back, chatting with the tea stall guy next door. We don't have a big fancy showroom with bright lights. Usually, the stock is just stacked on the wooden tables we’ve had since the day we opened. It’s a bit crowded in here during the festive seasons when everyone wants something new. We just try to get the work done right so people come back next time. It’s a decent living and we like being part of the M. C. Nagar community. Nothing too complicated about it, just honest work with fabrics every day for the neighborhood.
