Jayashree Garments

Jayashree Garments is right near the Gh Government Hospital on Darapuram Road. It’s a busy area because of the hospital, so there are always people walking past the shop. We mostly deal with making clothes and you can see the thread and needles all over our work tables. The building isn't very new and the paint is peeling a bit in the corners, but it works for what we need. We spend our days measuring people and cutting cloth to fit. Sometimes we have a big order that keeps us late into the night. My cousin helps out with the accounts while the rest of us handle the sewing and the customers. It’s a lot of sitting down and leaning over the machines, which can make your back ache by five o'clock. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just know we are here because they see the sign when they go to the hospital or the market. We use old fans that rattle a lot, but they keep us cool enough. Sometimes we get a bit of gossip from the ladies who come in to get their dresses fixed. It’s a simple life and we just focus on finishing the garments that are promised for the next day. No big fancy promises, just local sewing and a bit of hard work to pay the bills.
