Down at 357 Avinashi Road in Peelamedu, that’s where you’ll find Jai Jyotawali Steel Pvt. Ltd. It’s a high-traffic area, so there’s always the sound of cars and buses passing by outside. Our yard is usually full of steel rods and sheets, and the crane is often moving stuff around to make room for new deliveries. The office is just a small section of the building where we handle the invoices and talk to the drivers. It’s not the cleanest place because of all the iron and dust, but it’s an honest workspace. We don’t spend much on decorations; we just have some calendars and old photos on the walls. The guys working in the back are usually wearing heavy boots and gloves, and there’s always a lot of clanging going on. We’ve been in Peelamedu for quite some time, so we’ve seen how Avinashi Road has grown and gotten busier over the years. We take orders mostly over the phone or from people who just drive their trucks in. It’s a straightforward business without any bells and whistles. We work long hours, especially when a big shipment of steel comes in late in the evening. It’s a bit of a grind, but we like the physical nature of the steel trade and seeing the structures people build with what we provide. We just keep going, day in and day out, making sure the steel gets loaded and sent out.
