J.M. Engineering Works

We’ve got our shop set up at 4-C in the Nadesa Gounder Layout. It’s not the easiest place to find if you aren’t looking for it, but we like it that way. Most of what we do involves engineering work, which basically means we’re always fixing things or making new parts from scratch. The floor is concrete and usually has a few stains from various jobs we’ve finished. We have a couple of lathes and some welding gear that get used every single day. It’s a small team here, just a few of us who know how to handle the metal. We don’t wear uniforms or anything like that, just old clothes that can get dirty. Sometimes a customer comes in with a broken piece of a tractor or a pump, and we spend the afternoon figuring out how to mend it. It’s quiet work in a way, even with the noise of the machines, because we’re usually focused on what’s in front of us. We don’t have a website or anything fancy, just a sign out front and the word of mouth from people who’ve been here before. It’s a bit dusty and the lighting could be better, but we get the jobs done. We just keep our heads down and work through whatever comes through the door, trying to stay busy until the sun goes down.
