Our shop is tucked into the Periyannan Building at 4/26 on Dr Subbarayan Road. It is not the biggest space you will ever see, but we make it work for everything we need to do. If you walk by, you will likely hear the sound of metal hitting metal or the hum of the welding machines. There is usually a layer of iron filings on the floor by noon, no matter how much we try to sweep things up. We started J K Fabrication because we knew how to handle tools and there was a need for it right here in this neighborhood. Most days are spent cutting pieces of steel or fixing up frames that people bring in. It gets hot inside the building, especially in the afternoons when the ventilation isn't doing much, so we take our breaks out on the sidewalk for some air. The street is always busy with people going about their business, and we are right there in the middle of it. We don't have a receptionist or anything like that. If you come by, you just talk to whoever isn't holding a torch at that moment. We keep the scrap metal piled up in the corner until the collector comes by once a week. It’s a bit cramped with all the equipment and the raw materials taking up floor space, but we have a system that works for us. It’s just a regular local shop where we put in the hours and get the jobs finished.
