Arumugam Engineering

We are tucked away in Vinayagapuram, which is part of the Saravanampatti area. It’s a bit of a growing spot, but our shop, Arumugam Engineering, still feels like a local corner. We have a few lathes and some old drills that have been with us for years. They still work better than the new ones sometimes. The guys who work here are all from around the neighborhood. We start early before the sun gets too hot, though by noon the tin roof makes sure we all feel the heat anyway. We mostly do small parts and repair work for the local factories. There’s always a pile of metal shavings in the corner that needs sweeping. We don't have a front desk or a receptionist. If you want to talk to us, you just walk into the shed and find whoever isn't busy with a machine. It’s a bit loud and you have to shout sometimes over the noise of the grinders. We’ve been in Vinayagapuram for a long time and we’ve seen the roads get paved and the buildings go up around us. We just stay the same, doing the same kind of work we’ve always done. It’s not a complicated business. We just fix what’s broken and make things that people need. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy enough to stay out of trouble. Most evenings we just shut down and head home through the local traffic.
