Out on Thadagam Road in Somaiyampalayam, you’ll find Arempee Compressores Pvt. Ltd. at Sf No. 549/1A. It’s a bit away from the main city rush, which is nice. We spend our days working on air compressors. It’s a lot of heavy metal and pressure testing. The workshop can get pretty loud when we are testing a unit, but we’re used to it by now. We’ve been here for a good stretch of time. The team is mostly local folks who know their way around a wrench. We don't put on airs or try to act like a big multinational. We’re just a group of people making sure these compressors work like they’re supposed to. Sometimes a part doesn't fit right and we have to go back to the drawing board, but that’s just part of the job. The floors are concrete and usually have a few oil spots here and there. We keep our tools handy and the coffee pot going. People from the nearby industries often stop by when they have a breakdown. We do what we can to help them out. It’s a simple life of mechanical work. We focus on the valves, the tanks, and the motors. When a compressor leaves our gate, we know it’s ready for the job. We just keep our heads down and worry about the next build on the schedule. It is noisy and dirty, but it is what we know.
