Anusam Apparels

If you head over to No. 2/3 Kottai Thottam in Kumarananthapuram, you’ll find our building. Anusam Apparels is where we spend most of our waking hours. It’s mostly sewing machines and stacks of fabric piled up near the windows. The light in Kumarananthapuram is good for seeing the threads, which helps. We started out small and we're still pretty much a local operation. There are usually about a dozen of us working the floor. It gets a bit noisy with all the stitching going on at once. We handle a lot of different garments depending on what’s needed that week. Some days it’s all shirts, other days it might be something else entirely. We don't really do big advertising campaigns or stuff like that. Most people who work here live just a few streets away. We walk to work or take the cycle. The bins are always full of scraps and loose ends. We try to keep the place organized, but when a big order comes in, things get a bit messy for a few days. That is just how the garment business goes. We don't have a receptionist or a lobby. You just walk in and see us working. We just focus on getting the seams straight and making sure the buttons don't fall off. It’s basic work but it keeps us busy. We've been at this spot for some years now and the neighbors are used to the hum of the motors.
