The Family Mart

The Family Mart is located at 120, Kamaraj Nagar in Perungudi. We are pretty close to the Green Acers area, which is a good landmark if you’re looking for us. Chennai is hot, so we try to keep the shop as cool as we can for anyone coming in from the sun. It’s a decent-sized place for a neighborhood mart. We carry all the stuff a family might run out of during the week, like milk, snacks, and toiletries. I spend most of my time restocking the shelves because things tend to move fast in Perungudi. It’s not a perfect store—sometimes the floor needs a mop or a lightbulb goes out—but we get to it when there’s a quiet moment. I like being here because the people in Kamaraj Nagar are friendly and they don't mind a bit of a wait if the line gets long. We don't have any corporate training or fancy uniforms, just a few of us wearing whatever is comfortable while we work. The address is easy to find, and we’ve become a bit of a regular stop for the people living in the nearby apartments. It’s just a honest place to shop without any of the fuss you get at the big supermarkets downtown. We open early enough for the office crowd and close after the kids finish their homework and the street gets quiet.
