Santhi Fisheries

It's usually quite early when we start things here at Santhi Fisheries. The air in Palavakkam always has that salty smell because we aren't far from the water. Our place on Mgr Road is easy to find, right at 4/216. Sometimes the traffic gets a bit much, especially when the trucks are moving in and out, but that is just how it goes in this part of town. Most of us have been working with fish for a long time, so we don't mind the mess or the cold water. We keep our boots by the door and spend a lot of time checking the bins and making sure things are sorted right. It isn't a fancy office with big chairs. We have a couple of desks where we keep the papers, but mostly we are on our feet. People come by looking for what came in that morning. Sometimes the weather makes things hard, but we show up anyway. We’ve seen the neighborhood change a lot over the years, more buildings going up and the road getting paved again, but we just stay here doing our usual work. It’s a lot of lifting and moving crates, and by the end of the day, everyone is pretty tired. We usually wrap things up when the sun goes down, wash down the floors, and lock the gate. It's a simple way to make a living, and we've been at it long enough that it feels like second nature now.
