Tea Spot

Our little place is called Tea Spot and you can find us at 23, Agaram Main Road in Selaiyur. It is a busy stretch of road and there is always noise from the buses and bikes passing by. We start early in the morning, getting the milk and the tea leaves ready before the first lot of people head to work. The shop is small, so it gets a bit crowded when four or five people are waiting at the same time. We have a few benches but most people just stand and talk while they drink. The stove is always going and it gets quite hot in the back. Sometimes we run out of snacks by the evening because the college kids come by and buy everything. Selaiyur has changed a lot over the years with more buildings coming up, but our spot stays pretty much the same. We have a regular routine of cleaning the counters and washing the glasses throughout the day. It’s a lot of standing on your feet, but you get used to it after a few years. Sometimes the rain makes the road messy and people crowd inside to stay dry. We don’t have a big menu, just the basic stuff people like to drink daily. It’s a decent life, keeping the locals caffeinated. We just focus on the tea and making sure the sugar is just right for the regulars. The rent keeps going up but we stay open anyway.
