Doveton Cafe

Doveton Cafe is right at No 5 on Purasawalkam High Road in Vepery. We are very close to the Doveton Circle, which is one of the busiest junctions in this part of Chennai. There is always a constant hum of traffic and the sound of the city right outside our door. This building has been here for quite some time, and the cafe itself feels like a part of the old neighborhood. We don't have air conditioning or modern glass interiors. It is just an old-fashioned Chennai cafe with high ceilings and fans spinning overhead. We open up quite early in the morning because that is when the people in Vepery want their first cup of coffee. The steam from the coffee urns fills the front of the shop. We have a few regular wooden tables where people sit to read the newspaper while they eat. It is not a place for a fancy business meeting, but it is good for a quick break from the heat outside. We don't use any slick advertising. Most people find us just because they are walking by or have been coming here since they were young. The tiles on the floor are a bit chipped in places, and the walls have some marks, but it is home to us. We keep the kitchen busy with traditional snacks and tiffin items. It is a simple, honest way to spend the day in the heart of Chennai.
