If you walk down Choolaimedu High Road, you’ll find us at Shop No.84. We are right in the middle of the Subathra Thottam area, specifically the 4th Block. It’s a loud, busy part of town, and that suits us just fine. The morning starts way before most people are even awake. We get the crates in, sort through everything, and get the ice ready. It’s wet work and your hands stay cold for most of the shift. The shop isn’t fancy at all. It’s got tiled walls and a floor that we’re constantly washing down. People from the neighborhood come by every day, some just to see what came in fresh and others who have been buying from us for years. You get to know the faces after a while. Choolaimedu High Road is always packed with traffic, so there’s a constant backdrop of horns and engines. We don’t have time for much small talk during the rush, but we try to keep things moving. By the time the afternoon sun hits the front of the shop, we’re usually thinking about cleaning up for the next day. It’s hard work, smelling like the ocean and dealing with scales all day, but it’s a living. We’ve been here long enough that the shop feels like a second home, even with all the noise and the mess.
