Staar Snacks

Mambalam is always crowded and noisy, and we are situated right in the middle of all that chaos. Staar Snacks is just a small, humble place where we spend our time making things for people to eat. We have the big deep fryers going for most of the morning hours. It gets incredibly hot inside the kitchen, especially during those long summer months when there is no breeze. The street just outside our door is very narrow and the cars are always honking at each other. We don't really mind the noise much anymore because we are used to it. We have got a few people working here who have been part of the team since we first started out. We mostly focus on making those savory things that people like to munch on during tea time. The bags of ingredients are stacked high against the walls because our space is quite tight. We don't have a fancy showroom or a glass front. It is more like a workshop where we produce everything and then send it out to the shops. Sometimes the local people stop by to buy a small packet directly from the fryer. We use a lot of oil and different spices every day. The smell of the food stays on your clothes even after you go home. It is hard work and your back usually hurts after standing for ten hours straight. But we honestly like the routine of it. We don't use many big machines here, mostly just doing things by hand.
